the 6th
leading cause of death in the United States. pre diabetes symptoms,
what causes diabetes, how to control diabetesDiabetes
is a chronic condition that affects over 150 million people in the
world today. The percentage of people suffering from this condition is
increasing rapidly, to the point where many medical authorities are
referring to it as an epidemic. Click

diabetes.
And
what is diabetes?
It is a condition that
prevents your body from turning your food into energy. Instead glucose
stays in your bloodstream, and left untreated can result in a range of
complications.
If you have been diagnosed as
diabetic, as you know you really must make some lifestyle changes or
you will begin experiencing some potentially very serious medical
conditions. With proper treatment and care, you will lead a normal and
happy life. what causes diabetes If
a healthy and normal life is what you desire then you must take charge
of your own health. At the bottom of this page there is some
tips and information on what you can do to remain, or regain your
health.

There are two types of Diabetes: pre diabetes symptoms
Type
1 Diabetes.
Sometimes called juvenile diabetes is an autoimmune condition
where your pancreas slows or stops insulin production.
Insulin is the hormone require to metabolize sugar (or
glucose) into your blood. With this condition your blood
sugar level, the amount of glucose in your blood will continue to
increase which can lead to some serious health risks.
People with type 1 diabetes must take a shot of insulin daily
to keep their blood sugar levels down, and metabolize the sugars in
their blood. pre diabetes
symptoms what causes diabetesType
2 diabetes.
Sometimes called mature onset diabetes is the most common form of
diabetes.what causes diabetes
As with Type 1 Diabetes, the problem is related to
insulin, a
hormone needed to convert sugar into energy.
With Type 2 diabetes your body might be
producing too little insulin, or it might not be reacting to the
insulin correctly. Either way, the end result is that glucose builds up
in the bloodstream instead of going into the cells. Left untreated,
high blood sugar can cause serious long-term health problems.
Type 2 diabetes usually appears later in life, often between
the ages of 35-45 years. As it often develops slowly, many people may
not recognize the symptoms, and may have diabetes without knowing it. More information about
diabetes....Here
are some tips that you may
or may not know about keeping your diabetes under control, and
minimizing your health risks.pre diabetes symptoms what causes diabetes | Firstly, diabetes is an
autoimmune disorder. It is
not a deficiency in some vitamin or mineral or herb. We will
talk
about the benefits of select supplements later down the page, but to
truly restore
health, or at least begin to restore health it takes a modification of
immune behavior. There is simply one natural thing to look at
when it
comes to this - Transfer Factors. Look at this link then

the page at the alternative treatments to diabetic symptoms. |
One of the keys to maintaining
good health is to maintain healthy glucose levels on a consistent
basis. Frequent highs and lows can be very distressful to
your body. There are many theories on what causes diabetes, but none are
yet proven. Which leaves us only with the treatment and
prevention of this deadly disease.pre diabetes symptoms what causes diabetes - Diet.
Diet is extremely important to maintain stable glucose
levels. This can be achieved through eating the following types of
foods in moderate proportion and balance.
 - Eat lots of vegetables
and fruits. Try picking from the rainbow of colors available to
maximize variety. Eat non-starchy vegetables such as spinach, carrots,
broccoli or green beans with meals.
- Choose whole
grain foods over processed grain products. Try brown rice with your
stir fry or whole wheat spaghetti with your favorite pasta sauce.
- Include
dried beans (like kidney or pinto beans) and lentils into your meals.
- Include
fish in your meals 2-3 times a week.
- Choose lean
meats like cuts of beef and pork that end in "loin" such as pork loin
and sirloin. Remove the skin from chicken and turkey.
- Choose
non-fat dairy such as skim milk, non-fat yogurt and non-fat cheese.
- Choose
water and calorie-free "diet" drinks instead of regular soda, fruit
punch, sweet tea and other sugar-sweetened drinks.
- Choose
liquid oils for cooking instead of solid fats that can be high in
saturated and trans fats. Remember that fats are
high in calories. If you're trying to lose weight, watch your portion
sizes of added fats.
- Cut back on high calorie
snack foods and desserts like chips, cookies, cakes, and full-fat ice
cream.
- Eating too much of even healthful foods
can lead to weight gain. Watch your portion sizes.pre diabetes symptoms
Note: Many of the above
suggestions are related to keeping you in a lower risk bracket of
Atherosclerosis. This is because you are at 3x the risk of
Atherosclerosis than a non-diabetic for developing this deadly
disease. Should you choose to eat "fattier" foods for
example, you may want to look at our Atherosclerosis section for tips
on how to minimize, and counter act this risk. pre diabetes symptomswhat causes diabetes- Exercise.
Exercise (physical activity) Does several things.
It reduces your chances of developing Atherosclerosis.
It improves your LDL/HDL Cholesterol ratio. It
burns calories, contributing to weight loss. It increases
circulation, and mobility. It even helps reduce Stress.
As a diabetic, this would be a key factor in maintaining good
health. Don't underestimate this one.pre diabetes symptoms
- Good
Supplementation. I am going to include a list of some of the
tested, beneficial supplements that you should look at. pre diabetes symptoms
 - Chromium
Picolinatepre diabetes symptoms
Chromium is an essential element that is involved in the
action of insulin. Severe chromium deficiency is rare. However, when
compared with healthy non-diabetic people, individuals with diabetes,
especially those with cardiovascular disease, have lower chromium
levels. A couple of studies have found that low chromium concentrations
in toenails (a measure of long-term intake) predict a higher incidence
of heart attacks in otherwise healthy people.what causes diabetes
Over ten small studies have evaluated the effects of
chromium
picolinate on glucose metabolism and blood fats in people with diabetes
or impaired glucose tolerance, and in people without diabetes. In most
of these studies, an increase in HDL (healthy cholesterol), an increase
in the effectiveness of insulin, a reduction in triglyceride fats, and
a reduction of glucose were observed. Doses of up to 1000 micrograms
per day for as long as 64 months have reported no toxic effects.what causes diabetes Cinnamonpre diabetes symptoms
Cinnamon made the news in 2003 with the publication
of a study
in the journal Diabetes Care. The study reported that cinnamon
supplementation (1, 3, or 6 gms per day) was associated with a
reduction in fasting glucose (18-29%), triglycerides (23-30%), and LDL
cholesterol (7-27%) in patients with type 2 diabetes. Since then, two
other studies have been published which reported no significant changes
in fasting plasma glucose or A1c’s (glycosylated hemoglobin) with
cinnamon administration.what causes diabetes
Fewer than one hundred patients received cinnamon in
all three
studies combined, the studies were relatively short, and it is
difficult to standardize cinnamon, all of which make it difficult to
draw conclusions. If you do decide to try cinnamon, you certainly need
to discuss it with your provider because if cinnamon does reduce blood
sugar, you might have hypoglycemic episodes.what causes diabetes Pterocarpus Marsupiumpre diabetes symptoms
Pterocarpus marsupium also demonstrates some very
unique
features, which include beta cell protective and regenerative
properties as well as blood glucose lowering activity. In
studys done over the last 50 years these results have been duplicated
in animal and human studies. The
majority of the animal studies use several different types of test
species that have been make diabetic by the use of selected toxins and
then given various extracts of Pterocarpus marsupium. In all of these
studies Pterocarpus marsupium was able to reverse the damage to the
beta cells and actually repopulate the islets. This
also caused the almost complete restoration of normal insulin
secretion. In the human studies, there is also incredible
success in using Pterocarpus Marsupium to control blood sugar levels.
Gymnema sylvestrepre diabetes symptoms what causes diabetes
The
herbs in Gymnemosupium appear to demonstrate both a pancreatic and
extra-pancreatic effect in their clinical studies. This would make them
equally effective in treating both Type I and Type II diabetes. In
fact, there is even some evidence that Gymnema sylvestre and
Pterocarpus marsupium might work synergistically
when combined. Their individual differences may compliment each other
by possibly addressing the problem through different mechanisms and
produce a greater effect than their sum. Actually, these two herbs have
performed so well in their clinical studies that the Mayo Clinic has
even decided to investigate them further. - Momordica
charantiapre diabetes symptoms
Studies
have shown that Momordica charantia can also be very beneficial to
those of us with diabetes. One study I read recently
published in 2005
was very exciting. Here is an excerpt from it: This
study
aims to assess whether or not a methanol extract of Momordica charantia
is able to normalize lipid and glucose levels in diabetic rats fed a
high-fat and a low-carbohydrate diet. Different doses of the extract
are administered orally for 45 days. The rats are bled at the beginning
of the experiment and at 15-day intervals. Blood glucose, triglyceride,
low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and
cholesterol are estimated. Results showed that M. charantia extract
normalised blood glucose level, reduced triglyceride and LDL levels and
increased HDL level. The animals reverted to a diabetic state once the
M. charantia extract was discontinued.- Fenugreek pre diabetes symptoms
Fenugreek
is a member of the Leguminosae, or Fabaceae, family and grows well in
India, Egypt and other parts of the Middle East. The part used
medicinally is the seeds.what causes diabetes
Fenugreek seeds contain alkaloids, including trigonelline,
gentianine and carpaine compounds. The seeds also contain fiber,
4-hydroxyisoleucine and fenugreekine, a component that may have
hypoglycemic activity. The mechanism is thought to delay gastric
emptying, slow carbohydrate absorption and inhibit glucose transport.what causes diabetes
Fenugreek may also increase the number of insulin receptors in
red blood cells and improve glucose utilization in peripheral tissues,
thus demonstrating potential anti-diabetes effects both in the pancreas
and other sites. The amino acid 4- hydroxyisoleucine, contained in the
seeds, may also directly stimulate insulin secretion. - Korean Red Ginsengpre diabetes symptoms
Korean researchers are
suggesting that Korean Red Ginseng may have a preventive effect on type
2 diabetes. what causes diabetes Previous
studies have found that the ginseng has
BG-lowering qualities. In a study involving 10-week-old male rats in a
“pre-diabetic stage,” 200 mg/kg of Korean Red Ginseng extract were
given for 40 weeks. Body weight and peritoneal fat mass were
significantly decreased in the Korean Red Ginseng-treated rats.
Glucose, A1C, total cholesterol, triglyceride and free fatty acid were
significant decreased. what causes diabetes Alpha-Lipoic
Acidpre diabetes symptoms
Alpha-lipoic acid or lipoic acid (LA) is a very
potent
anti-oxidant compound and is also a cofactor in several important
biologic reactions. In Germany, it has been used for years to treat
acute painful diabetic neuropathy. It has been evaluated in several
well-controlled studies carried out in Germany, Russia, and the United
States in patients with diabetes. In these trials (DEKAN Study, and The
SYDNEY trial), LA was associated with improvement in autonomic and
painful peripheral neuropathy. what causes diabetes
Other studies have suggested that LA may improve
glucose
utilization in some patients with type 2 diabetes and may slow the
progression of kidney damage. LA has not been associated with toxicity
in doses used in these studies, typically 600 mg once or twice
daily. what causes diabetes
No dietary sources of alpha-lipoic acid are known -
must be
supplemented. - Vanadium.
Vanadium
has shown promise in research trials helping the body achieve healthy
sugar levels.* It may help promote healthy glucose levels in people
with a lack of sensitivity to insulin by increasing this sensitivity.
Because of this, Vanadium compounds have been termed "insulin-mimetic."
Vanadium containing compounds have also recently been indicated in
their ability to help promote healthy cellular replication in the body.
Interestingly
this element is also showing great promise of being used as an
anti-cancer treatment in modified pharmaceutical forms.
- Onion
and Garlic
Onion and garlic have
significant blood sugar lowering action. The principal active
ingredients are believed to be allyl propyl disulphide (APDS) and
diallyl disulphide oxide (allicin), although other constitutents such
as flavonoids may play a role as well.
Experimental
and clinical evidence suggests that APDS lowers glucose levels by
competing with insulin for insulin-inactivating sites in the liver.
This results in an increase of free insulin. APDS administered in doses
of 125 mg/ kg to fasting humans was found to cause a marked fall in
blood glucose levels and an increase in serum insulin. Allicin doses of
100 mg/kg produced a similar effect.
Onion extract
was found to reduce blood sugar levels during oral and intravenous
glucose tolerance. The effect improved as the dosage was increased;
however, beneficial effects were observed even for low levels that used
in the diet (eg., 25 to 200 grams). The effects were similar in both
raw and boiled onion extracts. Onions affect the hepatic metabolism of
glucose and/or increases the release of insulin, and/or prevent
insulin's destruction.
The additional benefit of
the use of garlic and onions are their beneficial cardiovascular
effects. They are found to lower lipid levels, inhibit platelet
aggregation and are antihypertensive. So, liberal use of onion and
garlic are recommended for diabetic patients.
- Blueberry leaves
A decoction of the
leaves of the blueberry has a long history of folk use in the treatment
of diabetes. The compound myrtillin (an anthocyanoside) is apparently
the most active ingredient. Upon injection it is somewhat weaker than
insulin, but is less toxic, even at 50 times the 1 g per day
therapeutic dose. A single dose can produce beneficial effects lasting
several weeks. Blueberry anthocyanosides also increase
capillary integrity, inhibit free-radical damage and improve the tone
of the vascular system. In Europe, it is used as an anti-haemorrhagic
agent in the treatment of eye diseases including diabetic retinopathy.
